Uses

ad This allows it to be applied directly to the surface (Cold-applied), making it more straightforward for novice D.I.Yers. Besides roofing felt, this product is compatible with other substrates, including concrete, asphalt, wood, metal and similar surfaces.

Preparation

Ensure the surface is prepared correctly to achieve optimal results. Start by removing all contaminants that can interfere with the adhesion, including dirt, dust, grease, oil, etc. Any organic growth present should be removed using a dedicated mould remover, ensuring all spores are eliminated. A porous surface may be primed to help the Black Jack Roof Felt to adhere to it.

Application

BS 8217:1194 Is the British Standard for installing felt to a roof correctly; following these guidelines will optimise results.

  1. Apply the Roof Felt to the surface and allow it to be open for 15 - 30 minutes to develop its full tackiness.
  2. The felt should be placed on the wet adhesive carefully, either rubbing or rolling each section down to ensure maximum contact, focusing on removing any air that might get trapped.
  3. You should maintain pressure on the felt until it is cured fully, using a lighter roller that can apply approximately 25kg of pressure.

Limitations and Notes

  • Do not apply to areas that are subsequent to contact with solvents
  • Avoid inhaling any vapours in confined spaces
  • On timber roof structures, you should follow BS 8217:1994 to achieve optimal results
