When installing your Velux windows you’ll need some blinds to go with them. These allow you to shut off light when you don’t need it as well as giving you some privacy. However, there are multiple kinds of Velux blinds. If you want to find the right one you’ll have to examine the differences between them.
Blackout Blinds
The first choice you need to make is blackout blinds versus conventional blinds. Conventional blinds will shut out most sunlight and protect from visibility but will allow a certain amount of light to be transmitted. Blackout blinds completely shut out any light except from what slips through the sides of the windows.
Depending on how much light protection you want you can go for either, but the blackout blinds are particularly useful if you’re using a projector or something similar in that room.
Manual versus Electric versus Solar
The next decision is over manual, electric and solar blinds. Manual blinds are just that – roller blinds that you roll down yourself to your ideal level using the control bar. They are excellent if you want to save on money and the fuss of installation.
Electric blinds on the other hand allow for remote blind manipulation. This can be done via a switch on the wall or via a remote control. This is perfect for when your window is difficult to reach because of its height, and means you don’t need to compromise where you place your window. They drew their power from your mains electricity.
Solar blinds are like electric blinds but are powered by the sun instead using a solar panel. This means that you don’t have to worry about installing them in a complex manner so they can draw from mains electricity. They also hold up to 600 charges meaning that they won’t suddenly stop working as soon as the sun dips behind a cloud. These solar blinds can be operated via the control bar manually even without charge, or from a wall switch.
