How to Get the Most Out of Your VELUX Windows

VELUX windows have been a top-end skylight choice for over 80 years. However, they’re not just something that you can slap on a roof and call a day. This article will explain a few ways in which you can make the most of your Velux windows and avoid common pitfalls.

How to Securely Lock Your VELUX window

There are two main reasons that you’d want to put a lock on your skylight window. You might want to make sure that enterprising thieves can’t get in, so secure it from opening from the outside. However, you will also want to make sure that if you have young children in your house they can’t accidentally open the window and fall out.

Fortunately there is a solution to both these issues simultaneously. The Velux ZOZ Security Lock has a removable key and can be easily inserted into Velux’s popular GGL/GGU range of centre pivot windows. Locking it still allows for ventilation but prevents the window from being opened, perfect for childproofing. It also reinforces the existing security on the window to keep out cats and cat burglars alike.

What Blinds Work Best for VELUX windows

Velux windows can be bought with several different types of blind . These are fantastic for reducing or eliminating light transmission or increasing privacy at the drop of a hat. There are three main kinds of VELUX blinds. You can get standard manual rollers which are lowered with a control bar if you don’t want to have to bother with automatic ones.

If you do want the additional convenience of automatic blinds we offer two types. There are our electric blinds which are automatic and ideal for working alongside Velux INTEGRA electric windows, connecting through them to mains electricity.

Then there are even solar-powered blinds which don’t draw power from the mains and are perfect for use with normal GGU/GGU Velux windows. With a 600 charge battery there’s no reason to worry about it dying on you either.

All of our Velux blinds are available in multiple different colours, ranging from classic black or white to beige, grey and blue.
