Uses
The Bond It Bitumen Primer is an excellent primer that provides a key for subsequent bituminous coatings. It is ideal for those dealing with challenging substrates that won't naturally accept bituminous products. All you need to do is apply this primer before, allow it to dry, and then proceed with your application, repairing, sealing, treating, and generally improving the surface. This product's versatility is unmatched, providing keys to challenging substrates such as;
- Bitumen felt
- Mastic asphalt
- Weathered corrugated iron and steel
- Fibre cement
Preparation
To achieve optimal adhesive results with the bitumen primer, clean the surface and remove contaminants, including dirt, dust, grease, oil, organic growth, loose debris, etc. If the surface is suffering from a lot of organic growth, use a fungicide to eradicate it, and any rusting surface should be treated with a rust inhibitor.
Application
- Apply via brush or pile roller
- Apply a thin coat of bitumen primer, taking care not to cause any pooling
- Any area to be waterproofed should have the coat applied at least 75mm wide around it for secure sealing
- Leave to dry fully for at least 2 - 3 hours
