Preparation
Preparing the surface for this product requires you to prepare the wood correctly. If applying this directly to bare wood, you should sand it down slightly using 120-grit sandpaper, working toward the wood grain and smoothing any rough patches. After sanding the surface, you need to clean it with white spirit and a cloth, and this is to remove any excess sawn dust.
If the surface has been previously painted, you should inspect it, and if the quality is reasonably good, you'll need to sand it down using 120-grit sandpaper slightly, optimising it for the primer. If the surface is of poor quality, you must use the 120 grit sandpaper and remove all the old paint until you get to the bare wood. This can be achieved quicker using an electric sander, but ensure you always follow the wood grain. After sanding the surface, you should clean it, removing and sawn dust using white spirit and a cloth.
Application
- Crack open the tin and thoroughly stir it before using it, ensuring no lumps.
- Apply the paint onto the surface using a synthetic paintbrush, brushing toward the wood grain. Wait 4 hours for the first coat to dry.
- Apply a second coat onto the surface, following the wood grain again, and wait another 4 hours for the paint to dry.
- Once the paint has dried, lightly sand the surface using 240 grit sandpaper, thus optimising the surface for the next painting stage.
Aftercare
Due to the nature of the product, it shouldn't be left as a top coat. Once it's dried, you should look to apply the next paint. Any tools that have been used can be cleaned using warm, soapy water.
