Uses
The Sikaflex 221 Adhesive & Sealant by Sika is a fantastic, multi-purpose adhesive and sealant with brilliant elastic properties even after curing. It has excellent adhesion to various substrates and is suitable for metal, metallic primers, paint coatings, ceramic materials and plastics. Sika formulated this product to be compatible with paints, but it's vital to complete a preliminary test before completing the whole application. Despite the Sikaflex 221 being flexible, many paints are not; therefore, cracking and unsightly damages may occur.
Preparation
Surfaces to be bonded must be free from contaminants that can interfere with the bonding process. Focus on removing dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc., and then ensure the surface is dry afterwards.
Application
- Take a screwdriver or a similarly shaped, tough item and pierce the Sikaflex 221
- Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle with an opening to the required amount and screw it onto the cartridge.
- Place the cartridge into a standard sealant applicator tool/gun, and point the tip of the nozzle to the surface or gap to bond or fill and extrude the Sikaflex 221
- For perimeter pointing, apply it from one size to the other in one continuous bead - For adhesion, cover the surface with a zig-zag motion, allowing the material to extrude onto and bring the surfaces together and hold them tight.
