Uses
The Trade Exterior Frame Silicone by Soudal is an excellent product that securely seals around external frames with a durable, long-lasting bond. Its fantastic composite is unique, corrosion-free, and low modulus. It's ideal for use in building joints with high movement, glazing and joint works, expansion joints between various substrates and sealing between PVC, treated wooden, metal profiles and glass.
Preparation
Before commencing the application, ensure the area is free from contaminants that can hinder the adhesion. These include dirt, dust, grease, oil, organic growth, loose debris, and flaking material. Porous surfaces should be primed, while non-porous surfaces don't require priming.
Application
- Cut the dome at the top of the cartridge, taking care not to damage the threaded screw.
- Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle with an opening slightly larger than the gap to be filled.
- Place the cartridge into a suitable applicator gun.
- Point the tip of the nozzle to one end of the gap and apply a singular bead along the length.
- After applying the sealant, tool it down to a smooth finish using an applicator tool or a wooden spatula/spoon.
Limitation and Notes
- This product isn't suitable for use on natural stone or polycarbonate.
- Do not use this product in areas that are subject to constant water immersion.
- When tooling it down, take care not to allow the soapy solution to make contact with either surface, as it can interfere with the adhesion of the sealant.
- This product can discolour in acidic environments or dark rooms; sunlight exposure can reverse the discolouration.
- Due to the diversity of PVC, aluminium lackers and textured coatings, complete a preliminary test to ensure compatibility.
