The Flashband by Bostik delivers excellent adhesive properties to various roofing surfaces, designed to seal a roof's exterior, preventing rainwater from trickling down into your roof space. Its unique ability to create a water seal makes it perfect for replacing damaged lead flashing, sealing upstand and eve pieces, roof capping, repairing roofing felt or joints on flat roofs, and edge flashing on roofing felt.
Preparation
It's essential to prepare the surface area before applying this product; otherwise, you'll not achieve optimal adhesion. The surface must be cleaned and free from contaminants like dirt, grease and dust. Any gaps, deep hollows and depression greater than 3mm should be filled with an appropriate filler. If the surface is porous, it's ideal to dampen the surface slightly; if it's non-porous, dampen it as well, but only a little bit. It's optional if you want to apply a primer before to boost the adhesion; it's not required but helps with tougher substrates.
Application
- When applying this product, you should cut the required length you need.
- Peel around 50mm of the backing tape and place it on the surface, lining it up.
- As you apply the tape to the surface, you should remove the backing tape, allowing a smooth, consistent application.
- After applying the tape, you should go over it gently using a hand, round piece of wood or seam roller to create a flush bond, focusing on clearing any air gaps.
- If you want to place another flash band adjacent to the first one, you must ensure at least a 25mm overlap to ensure a secure, watertight seal.
