Uses
The Yacht Varnish by Ronseal is the ideal varnishing for external wood, which offers a protective layer, sealing the wood and keeping it safe from the elements. The unique feature of this varnishing is its ability to highlight the wood's natural details and beauty, offering those with high-quality wood an opportunity to protect and preserve it. Suitable for the various surfaces, this product is ideal for including;
- Smooth planed wood
- New wood
- Previously varnish wood
- Door and window frames
- Cladding
Preparation
To achieve optimal results, only apply this product when the wood is dry, and the temperature is above 10°C without rain forecasting for that day. Prepare the surface by removing all old staining and varnishing; complete this using 120-grit sandpaper. Use a white spirit and a cloth to remove any leftover dust residue. New wood must be sanded to remove any loose wood present, then clean it with white spirit.
Application
- When cracking the tin open, stir it thoroughly to smooth out the varnish, ensuring no lumps are present.
- Using a brush, dip it into the varnish and apply it to the surface, brushing it with the woodgrains.
- You should apply 2-3 coats for optimal results, giving 8 hours between each coat to dry.
- Before applying the final coat, lightly land the surface and use white spirit to remove any dust on the surface. This will offer a smooth, optimal final finish, and this last coat should be dry in 4 hours.
Aftercare
Once the varnish is dry, you can maintain it with regular cleaning; this will allow you to keep the quality of the wood and the visual finish to a professional standard. If you have any issues with damage on the wood over time, you can lightly sand the surface to smooth it out and add a couple of coats of varnish back on it, restoring it to new.
