Uses
Maxtack Instant Grab SF by Sika is an excellent product for gap-filling around the house. It is formulated with solvent-free composite, allowing easy water clean up in case of any mistakes during application. This adhesive achieves up to 50% of its bonding strength within an hour and can take up to 24-48 hours to cure fully. Curing time depends on the substrates it's applied to.
Surfaces that are suitable for this product's application include;
- Wood
- Metal
- PVC
- Most Plastics
- Glass
- Aluminium
- Concrete
- Render
- Stone
- Paper
- Cork
- Ceramics
- Plaster/Plasterboard
- Rockwool
- Pufoam board
- Styrofoam
- Breezeblock
Preparation
Before applying this product, it is required that you prepare the surface if you want to achieve optimal adhesion. Prepare the surface by removing contaminants that can hinder the bonding of this product, including impurities such as; dust, oil, grease, dirt, etc.
Application
- Cut the cartridge's top and ensure you do not damage the threaded screw.
- Screw the nozzle onto the cartridge, and cut it at a 45° angle with an opening slightly larger than the gap. Apply the cartridge to a standard sealant gun.
- If the application is bonding heavy items, you should apply the adhesive around the entire surface edge (3-5cm from the edge). Apply further glue over the back with beads at intervals of 300mm. Alternatively, you can apply the adhesive directly onto the battens and press it into place. Providing additional support during the curing process is essential, especially with heavier items. To aid the curing process, use clamps to hold the surfaces together. Curing time can take 24-48 hours; this depends on the temperature and the substrate it's applied onto.
- If the application is bonding lightweight items, apply the adhesive onto the back of the surface in either one or two continuous beads and bring them together firmly. Similar to heavy objects, the curing time is affected by the substrate it's applied onto and the ambient temperature.
- When completing gap-filling applications, apply a bead along the gap, maintaining a firm, even pressure, tool down afterwards before the product starts to cure.
Limitations
- In damp, wet, and humid conditions, the curing time of this product is significantly extended.
- This product is suitable for application on damp surfaces but not if the surface is permanently wet.
- Do not use in situations where both surfaces are non-porous
- Do not use this product as a mirror adhesive.
