This Bond It De-Bond Mate Silicone Sealant Remover is an outstanding product with a unique formula delivering a safe, low-odour formulation that doesn't contain halogenated solvents, heavy metals, cyanide or water. It has a minimal hazard rating, and its active substances are biodegradable, it also doesn't contain dichloromethane.
This product functions by chemically digesting the silicone, leaving only its remnants that are easy to remove with either water or solvent. The surface where this product is fantastic includes; brick, concrete, PVCu, melamine laminates, acrylic, uncoated aluminium and its alloys, copper and its alloys, iron, steel, glass, ceramics, epoxy composites, all without any adverse effects. It may, however, have little impact on rubber and non-silicone elastomers or most painted surfaces, Bond It advises to test a small area before use.
Application
The product is delivered in a ready-to-use bottle and shouldn't be diluted. Prepare all surfaces by ensuring they're dry, removing as much present silicone with a knife or sharp blade. Any paintwork present can be protected by masking tape.
- Use a standard sealant gun.
- Apply the gel over the old sealant, ensuring you apply double the amount of what old sealant is present.
- Depending on the silicone, it can take between 2 hours and 12 hours for it to be properly digested
- Remove away with clean paper tissue or dry cloth, ensuring all traces of the solvent are removed
