Uses

The Plastix-22A Premium Grade by Sika is an outstanding, high-performance silicone that's perfect for complicated substrates such as glass, lead, polycarbonate and acrylic sheets. Not only does it deliver excellent adhesion to complicated substrates, but common building surface adhesion is outstanding, with most being primerless, both porous and non-porous. Its general resistance to UV, weathering, water and chemicals is exceptional, with exterior and interior applications being ideal areas. Applications this product is typically applied in include;

  • Perimeter pointing around aluminium, wood and PVCu windows and door frames
  • Expansion joint, sanitary, parapet, roofline weather, glass-to-glass and glass-to-aluminium sealing.
  • General glazing sealing and draught proofing, including repair work over existing sealing.
  • Industrial sealing applications, coated metal, anodised aluminium and stainless steel.
  • Weather and joint sealing of aluminium glazing systems performed facade panels and curtain wallings.

Preparation

All surfaces to which you intend to apply the Plastix-22A should be prepared to ensure optimal adhesion. Start by cleaning the surface and removing contaminants that can hinder the adhesion, including dust, dirt, grease, oil, etc. Although priming isn't required, it does enhance adhesion, with suitable proprietary cleaners for surfaces being ideal.

Application

  1. Cut the top of the cartridge, taking care not to damage the threaded screw
  2. Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle with an opening slightly larger than the gap to be filled
  3. Screw the nozzle onto the cartridge and place it into a suitable sealant applicator tool/gun
  4. Point the tip of the nozzle to the gap and a long bead across the area
  5. Tool it down to a smooth finish within 5 minutes before the skin starts to form
