Lead Flashing

Home Shop Lead Flashing

ERoofing stocks a range of lead flashing rolls suitable for even the heaviest duty needs. In the event that there is a need for a more robust solution, Code 6, 7, and 8 lead flashings are available to order directly from our website.

While other codes of lead roof flashing, particularly 4 and 5, are more commonplace, some projects require thicker rolls of lead to provide the best finish. Code 6 comes in at 2.65mm thick, Code 7 are 3.15mm thick, and Code 8 are 3.55mm thick.

The extra thickness and weight mean that these solutions come at a premium due to the increased lead weight. With that, however, comes increased thermal movement above codes at the lower end of the spectrum.

Where Codes 6, 7 and 8 Lead Flashings are Used

A thicker form of lead flashing proves helpful when a more robust product is required. All codes 6, 7 and 8 can be used for flat/pitched roofing, parapets, bay tops, and balconies, while codes 6 and 7 can also be installed on dormers, pitched valley gutters and vertical cladding.

Code 6 lead flashing rolls can be installed on chimney flashing, apron and cover flashing, and hip and ridge flashing, where 7 and 8 cannot. The correct form of lead flashing must be used; otherwise, it can cause issues that need rectifying further down the line.

Lead codes define the weight the thickness of the lead sheet. The number in the code relates to the weight in lbs, per square foot of lead. It is essential to use the correct lead code when ordering lead as different jobs need different requirements.
We highly recommend using disposable gloves when handling lead because it is not good for your body. It is worth noting lead can also get into your body through the airways and through swallowing. Lead is known for causing various health issues including headaches, tiredness, and constipation — to name a few. Before handling any lead, please make sure it doesn’t touch any surfaces that may be used for anything else. Moreover, wear a pair of gloves and make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after handling any lead.
As a result of its excellent malleability and low melting point, lead has been used in roof construction for centuries. It can be moulded in any shape, is highly resistant to corrosion, and is non-combustible, making it ideal for all roofing applications. Use the lead weights chart below to understand better what you may need for your project.
