Solar Blinds
VELUX Solar Blinds are a great solution for a home that’s looking to stay green and stylish at the same time. As part of our VELUX blinds range, we offer a superb variety of colours and sizes to suit your needs.
What is a Solar Blind?
A solar blind is essentially a traditional blind that is also a solar panel. When the blind is drawn the solar material can begin generating electricity from the sun’s rays as per a traditional solar panel. This electricity is stored in a battery, which allows the blind to operate without needing to be connected to a power grid.
Does that mean it won’t work charge on cloudy days?
The solar blinds can charge even without the sunlight being totally direct. In addition, the battery holds 600 uses worth of charge, meaning that it’s incredibly unlikely that a VELUX Solar Blind would ever go long enough without recharging fully from sunlight to be unusable. However, in a pinch the blind can still be operated manually.
