Uses
The Black Jack 902 Bitumen & Flashing Primer by Everbuild is a high-performance, thin black primer that provides the key to the surface, enabling subsequent application of bitumen paints, flashing or roofing coatings. It's an excellent and must-have product for roofer, with its high-quality composite aiding them in providing keys for most of their applications. Applications this product is typically applied in include;
- Concrete floors and roofs, cementitious renders and screeds
- Bitumen felt, mastic, asphalt and wood
- Weathered corrugated iron and steel
Preparation
Preparing the surface is vital to achieve optimal adhesive results. Start by taking a wire brush to the surface and swiping away contaminants that can interfere with this product. Surfaces must be checked to ensure they're sound and stable and then cleaned from all impurities. Metal surfaces must have their rust removed; if needed, a rust-inhibitive product must be used to treat it. Any paint peeling should be removed, as should tar-based systems. If applying this directly to galvanised surfaces, roughen it with a wire brush or use a proprietary etch primer.
Application
- This product is ready to use; do not thin it, as it'll cause performance issues.
- Apply directly to the surface using either a brush or spray
- When applying by brush, ensure it's well-scrubbed in and that you apply a thin, even coverage
- Avoid any Ponding/Pooling when using it
- If you're using it to fibre-cement or rag felt, apply a generous amount to saturate it into the surface.
Limitations and Notes
- This product should not be used where subsequent solvent contact is likely
- Avoid inhaling the vapours in confined spaces
- Ensure you allow a sufficient amount of drying time before overcoating
