Uses
The Black Jack Flashing Tape by Everbuild is the ultimate lead-flashing alternative product, with its ability to replace the need for traditional flashing with the Black Jack achieving the same properties. It can be used to replace or repair existing flashing, and it is compatible with repairing lead gutters or cracks in concrete. The specially formulated adhesive, which is a bitumen rubber-based glue, achieves a strong, entirely waterproof seal simply by pressing it firmly into place by hand. Application this product is typically applied in include;
- General repair to existing flashing
- Flashing bituminous felt and similar roofs and parapet walls
- Replacement of lost lead flashing
- Repairing cracks in concrete and lead gutters
- Sealing capping bolts in roof sheets and sealing roof ridges
- Protective coating to insulation materials
- Sealing projections through roofs and similar sections
- Flashing between timber, brickwork, blockwork or blockwork cavities
- Flashing of skylights
Preparation
All surfaces must be prepared by removing any contaminants that can interfere with the adhesion of this product, including dirt, oil, grease, dust, etc. Porous surfaces such as brick or concrete should be primed by using Black Jack Bitumen and Flashing Primer and allowed to fully dry.
Application
- Cut the required length of Black Jack tape
- Peel about 5m of the release back cover and place it into position
- Continue to peel the back cover whilst applying it in one continuous motion
- Ensure that you don't allow any creasing and that intimate contact is made so that no air is trapped underneath
- Use a small roller to ensure that all over the Black Jack edges, overlaps and, in general, is sealed correctly
- Any overlaps need at least 25mm overlapping.
Limitations and Notes
- Porous surfaces should be primed using Black Jack Bitumen Flashing and Primer.
- Do not apply this product to damp surfaces.
- In cold weather or storage conditions, the adhesion strength may be reduced. Bring it up to temperature or head the bitumen adhesive layer with a hot air blower to optimise the performance.
