Uses
The 10-Year Weatherproof Wood Paint by Ronseal provides long-lasting protection which lasts up to 10 years! Formulated by the Ronseal Scientist, this product is brewed to deliver efficient coverage, vibrant colour and tough and durable protection. Perfect for small jobs, you can apply this to wooden windows, doors, benches and every wooden surface that doesn't have a rough-sawn finish.
Preparation
You must properly prepare the surface before commencing the application. Otherwise, you risk the product failing to achieve its full potential.
When looking to paint bare wood, you should sand it down using 120 grit sandpaper to lightly sand your wood, ensuring that you sand in the direction of the grain. After the dust has settled, wipe away and clean the surface with white spirit. Any holes or cracks should be filled in with an appropriate wood filler.
With previously painted wood, you should sand it down using 240 grit if it's recently painted or is still in good condition. If the quality is poor, flaking, and cracked, you should only use 120 grit to sand the surface. After that, wipe the surface down with a white spirit and remove any dust, cleaning the surface. Any holes or cracks should be filled with an appropriate wood filler.
Application
- Thoroughly stir the tin, ensuring the colour pigment mix.
- Apply the paint directly to the surface, brushing in the direction of the grain, leaving the first coat to dry for 4 hours.
- Apply a second coat, and if you can still see the grains after the 2nd coat has dried, wait another 4 hours and apply a 3rd and final coat.
Aftercare
Once your weatherproof is dry, you may use warm, soapy water or a diluted all-purpose cleaning solution. Any damages to the paintwork can be rectified with lightly sand and then applying a coat to the affected area.
