Trowel Mastic
Trowel mastic is made for perimeter pointing around wood and metal window and door frames. Trowel mastic comes in various sizes including 3kg, 6kg, 1l, 2.5l and 5 litre — depending on the product and the brand.
What is Bitumen Trowel Mastic?
Bitumen trowel mastic is a black, heavily filled bituminous compound reinforced with fibres. In spite of the product’s surface membrane, it remains soft below to allow moderate movement. Can be used as a sealant or a filler for mastic asphalt, roofing felt, corrugated iron, metal gutters, and downpipes.
Applying Trowel Mastic
Before using Trowel Mastic, make sure that all surfaces are be clean, dry, and free from dirt, dust, grease, and other contamination. To apply it, use a trowel or a troweling knife. The surface should be pointed to a smooth finish immediately after application. Surface drying occurs within 7 days, followed by gradual drying of the cross-section. After use, flatten the surface of the mastic and replace the polythene disc, ensuring the container is properly sealed.
After using the trowel, make sure that you clean tools and equipment immediately after use with white spirit. Hardened material can only be removed by mechanical means. Do not use solvents to remove from hands/skin – use soap and water with the aid of Wonder Wipes.
