Solid Polycarbonate Sheets
Whereas most polycarbonate sheets are created with thin layers and empty chambers, Clear Amber’s Axgard Solid Sheets go for a different approach. Rather than many “walls”, Axgard is a solid pane of polycarbonate. Since polycarbonate is already extremely tough and resilient, thick panels of it are all but impervious to damage. The thicker panels can resist a hammer, let alone a wayward cricket ball. In fact, solid polycarbonate is so durable it’s even become a go-to material for police riot shields.
This makes Axgard an excellent choice for exterior glazing where it could receive impacts. For example, Axgard is a good choice for bus shelters or vehicle windows. It’s also still extremely lightweight compared to its strength, being half the weight of glass.
Despite all these advantages, Axgard isn’t even particularly expensive, especially the thinner sheets. This opens up a lot of ways to use Axgard, such as in lean-tos or covered walkways, or as part of railing barriers.
In addition to clear glazing, Axgard Solid Sheets are also available in patterned and bronze or opal tinted varieties to keep light transmission while providing some privacy. There is also Axgard Black, which is a totally opaque glazing option.
