Concrete is a resilient and versatile material which is why it sees so much use across both public and private buildings. However, nothing lasts forever, and sometimes concrete develops unsightly cracks.
Not only is this unappealing, cracks tend to spread as well. If water gets in them it can weather away more of the concrete. A stitch in time can save nine, and there’s no better repair material for cracks in concrete walls or floors than Everbuild Jetcem Rapid Repair Cement.Â
Everbuild Jetcem Rapid Repair Cement is easy to apply. It even sets in an astonishing 30 minutes. It’s fantastic for fixing cracks in concrete walls and floors and can also be used on stone. However, it is not suitable for repairing ceilings.Â
You Will Need:
- Safety Goggles and Gloves
- Mixing Vessel
- Water
- Trowel
- Everbuild Jetcem Rapid Repair Cement (see below)
- Gap Filler (if necessary, see below)
- Cleaning Cloth
- Tape Measure
- Plastic Shopping Bag and blu-tack (if the day is warm)
Jetcem comes in three varieties. Deep covers holes that are greater than 25mm, up to 150mm, while Waterproof resists water. Otherwise, simply use normal Jetcem. If you need to fill a crack deeper than 25mm that will be under heavy water exposure, you will need to fill it with gap filler until it is as shallow as 20mm first and let that gap filler cure before applying Jetcem Waterproof.
Repairing Cracks in Concrete with Jetcem Rapid Repair Cement
Before applying the cement, make sure to clean the crack with a cleaning cloth to make sure it is clean of grease, debris and grime. Then begin mixing the repair cement in a mixing vessel with water. The final composition should be three quarters repair cement to a quarter cold water. Mix thoroughly, without making too much to use at any one time – it will only remain malleable for between five and ten minutes.Â
Begin applying the cement with your trowel. If it starts to dry remember to remove any extraneous cement from around the crack and to wash your trowel in warm water until it is clean. If the hole is not totally filled clean the vessel, mix another batch and begin again.Â
Once the crack is filled and smoothed over, leave it to dry fully. If it’s a warm day, spread a shopping bag over the crack and fix it in place with blue-tack to help the Jemcet dry.
