Frequently Asked Questions (2)

When applied correctly, Acrypol should last around 5 to 10 years.
It can take 2 to 3 days for Acrypol to dry.

Acrypol

Acrypol is a resin-based acrylic waterproof protective coating that stops leaks quickly on your roof. The system specifically designed to refurbish failed flat roofs, including industrial, commercial, and residential roofs, can also provide a general patching solution. In addition, the coating can be applied via a simple DIY painting brush. Acrypol dries to form an ultra-tough, seamless, flexible overlay. Known as the original waterproof coating, Acrypol can be used throughout moist weather conditions and still implement long-term solutions to waterproofing problems, including flat roof repair.

Acrypol is a popular roofing product that comes in various sizes, such as 5kg and 20kg. It also comes in grey, white, and black colours. The versatility of Acrypol is recognised widely by Municipal Authorities and Maintenance Contractors throughout the United Kingdom.

Benefits of Acrypol

There are many benefits to this roof coat, including that it only requires a single coat application and has maximum solar reflectivity. Moreover, it can be applied in damp weather and is unaltered by temperature fluctuations. Subsequently, as a waterproofing product, it has exceptional adhesion and is fibre-reinforced making it an excellent choice for instant repairs on your roof.

Features of Acrypol

Acrypol is an acrylic resin dispersed in a solvent to form a semi‐liquid paste. The coating film dries into a robust, durable elastic overlay that prevents the passage of water yet is chemically structured to permit trapped moisture to evaporate, thus avoiding the development of blisters. A distinct feature is incorporated with added fibres, fibres that act as a built‐in scrim. When the coating is applied, these fibres interlace – filling and bridging gaps and cracks (up to 10mm wide). In addition, the fibres enhance the tensile strength of the dry film making it more durable.

Using primers and sealers with Acrypol

Acrypol+ usually doesn’t need primers or sealers. However, in rare cases, such as highly porous/friable surfaces, like concrete, asbestos, or where stone chips have been removed, it may be a good idea first to apply the recommended Acrypol sealer AS8000.

Filling cracks, splits, and fissures

Acrypol will fill and bridge cracks up to 10mm wide. After that, all voids should be filled with an appropriate flexible filler and allowed to set or dry. Alternatively, the gap may be overlaid with heavy-duty adhesive tape, then over‐coated with a plentiful 15cm wide brush stroke of Acrypol. Whilst the coating is wet, a strip of 15cm wide Acrypol Flexible Scrim should be bedded into the coating and allowed to settle overnight before the following stage.

Coverage Rate

Acrypol can be applied to the surface/substrate by brush or a squeegee at a coverage rate of 1kg/m² minimum to 2kg/m². Coverage rates can vary depending on surface porosity and texture when the surface is damp. Acrypol should first be worked into the surface with the brush or squeegee in a circular motion to remove excess moisture and ensure total adhesion before brushing out entirely.

Drying Time & Storage Conditions

Acrypol has a typical drying time of 24 hours. However, this may vary due to temperature changes and ventilation.

Moderate temperatures are recommended for Acrypol. If the lid is secured, it has a shelf life of several years.

Limitations & Advice

Acrypol is not suitable for balconies and walking surfaces, nor advocated for the treatment of wooden surfaces, fishponds or internal use. We recommend reading the labels carefully before using Acrypol for health and safety purposes.
