Cromapol is a fantastic option for emergency repairs on damaged roofs or other areas. But an unusually effective application is on the roofs of mobile homes and camper vans.
Motorhomes need to be waterproofed in the same way that a house is. However, because they are also vehicles, they tend to be more fragile than a house’s roof. Waterproofing it with Cromapol can therefore make a huge difference.
Cromapol is an acrylic resin paint with fibres. The result is a waterproof paint that is quick, easy, and simple to apply. It’s become a must-have for DIYers thanks to those properties.Â
While you won’t be working at a very high height, you should always be careful, especially if this is your first time working on a ladder.Â
You will need:
- Cleaning cloths such as Wonder Wipes
- Safety Gloves and safety goggles
- Disposable brushes
- CromapolÂ
- Stepladder
- Masking Tape
Remember, you’ll want to buy a variety of Cromapol that matches the colour of your vehicle. At ERoofing we stock grey, white, and black, meaning you’ll almost certainly be able to find a fit. If you can’t, you’re better off going with the clear Cromapol that we also sell though it should be mentioned that this variation doesn’t include fibres.Â
Application process
This process should be carried out on a day warmer than 5 degrees Celsius but cooler than 25 degrees. It will work best in dry conditions, but Cromapol will still work in damp conditions and can protect against water ingress even when wet.Â
First, you need to clean the roof itself. Standard detergents and a cleaning cloth can do in a pinch but for a thorough job we recommend using Wonder Wipes. These will fully get rid of any grease. After washing it, wait for it to dry.Â
Then you should apply masking tape around the edges of the top of the roof of your vehicle, such as on top of the roof rails. Cromapol has a rough finish and you’ll want to keep it only on the top of your roof. Remember not to cover where the roof rails touch the roof though – you’ll definitely want to seal that gap.Â
After applying your tape, open your tin, stir, and start applying a single thick, even coat across the rest of the roof. Pay special attention to any seams or anywhere that has produced leaks before. Remember to always use a disposable brush.
Leave the Cromapol to cure and dry. After that your motorhome or campervan should be fully protected.
